Overview
Management Controls is a platform that simplifies the management of contract labor to help customers optimize their workforce. The platform provides companies with an efficient and effective set of software tools to track the costs of labor, equipment, and materials.
At over 300 sites worldwide, this contractor management platform processes more than $50 billion annually in contractor spending.
Challenge
IIIMPACT was tasked with evaluating and updating the design, development, and functionality of contracting software to reduce customer frustrations. The client wanted to align the product with that of competitors to make it a better sell. Modernization and an enhanced user experience were key focus points.
We were tasked with a complete overhaul of the platform’s existing UX and UI so that customers could utilize a modernized, optimized, and user-friendly product. The updated version would help clients achieve daily and onboarding tasks with minimal hassle.
We focused on reducing user pain points and the time spent on menial tasks.
Method
Our initial engagement with Management Controls began in early 2020. Through a series of intensive product immersion sessions, we became better informed and equipped to understand our client, its target market, and its product line.
During our workshops, we learned more about typical MC user personas and the platform’s primary goals, objectives, and challenges.
Full Immersion
For this project, the IIIMPACT SWAT TEAM worked hands-on in an almost full-time capacity with leadership, product development, and the QA of Management Controls.
Our team was embedded within the MCI team and participated in daily Agile practices. We:
- Built a close professional and personal relationship with the team in all areas.
- Introduced automation and APIs where applicable to aid this process.
- Performed intensive user testing to evaluate UX/UI on various functionalities.

Method
Mobile app and coding
Beyond the web product, we also worked on the platform’s mobile component and included front-end development as part of our offering. Our developers joined the project to evaluate and improve the quality of the code used to build the platform. Our front-end development included (.Net MVC / Angular / React, HTML, CSS).
Front-end library
Our team created and now maintains a custom frontend component library on behalf of the client.
Ongoing feature development
We ensure that the platform performs optimally and collaborate with the client to augment their in-house team on new features that enhance user experience.
Results
IIIMPACT was able to completely modernize the look and feel of the application to be more on par with that of competitor platforms and services.

Through continuous user testing, we were also able to prove that our updated designs were favorably received when compared to the previous user experience. The improved user interface design led to a higher uptake and ease of use for the existing client base.
Differentiating the web and mobile applications meant that users on the go had an efficient tool that suited their needs and increased their efficiency and overall satisfaction and productivity.
